About

Through rigorous research, probing analysis, and targeted advocacy, we aim to help shift the response to the climate emergency from incremental delay to an urgent, all-in action plan. Discover our mission, our approach, and how we’re working to make our climate safe again.

A Wake-Up Call: Climate Advocacy in the Age of Urgency

In the face of an escalating climate crisis, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that traditional climate advocacy efforts are falling short of the mark. The urgency of the situation demands a bold and unwavering response, yet the current approach seems hesitant and tepid at best.

Consider the scale of the risk we’re facing: rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and ecological collapse threatening the very fabric of our existence. This isn’t just a problem for future generations to solve – it’s happening here and now, and we need action on a monumental scale to address it.

Yet, what do we see from the mainstream climate advocacy movement? A cautious approach, tiptoeing around political sensitivities and industry interests, afraid to rock the boat too much. We’re offered small-scale solutions and half-hearted commitments, while the clock continues to tick towards disaster.

It’s time to shake things up. We need a new breed of climate advocacy that matches the size and speed of the risk we face. One that isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo, to confront entrenched interests, and to demand the radical changes necessary to secure a livable future for all.

Where Climate Advocacy Gets Real

We need voices that are unapologetic in their demands for systemic change, that refuse to accept the false dichotomy between economic growth and environmental sustainability. We need leaders who are willing to push the boundaries of what’s considered politically feasible, to champion policies that prioritize the planet over profit.

In short, we need a climate advocacy movement that matches the urgency of the crisis we’re facing. Anything less is simply not good enough. It’s time to step up, speak out, and demand the action that our planet and future generations deserve.

Investing in a Safe Climate future – for Australia and the planet

Safe Climate Australia is a non-government organisation formed and steered by a foundation group of concerned scientists, community and business leaders with a shared understanding of the scientific and moral imperatives for emergency action to restore a safe climate.

Global warming impacts threaten the productivity and health of Australia’s major ecosystems, the prosperity of vital sectors of the economy such as agriculture, forestry, tourism and infrastructure, and security of water supply to the Australian population.

The accelerated rate of global warming and its impacts are generating alarming concern across the international climate research community, and are clearly indicating that all nations and governments need to rise to the challenge of achieving far more rapid decarbonization of economic activity than previously thought necessary, as well as sequestering sufficient atmospheric carbon to revert to a safe level of concentration, and urgently investigate safe way to cooling planet in time to prevent the collapse of critical earth systems and the climate vulnerable.

Restoring a safe climate

Serious climate change impacts are happening both more rapidly and at lower global temperature increases than projected. Scientific evidence confirms that there is already too much carbon in the atmosphere. If just the present level of greenhouse gases were maintained, the unfolding warming would be likely to result in, amongst other events, the large-scale loss of Arctic sea ice, Himalayan glaciers and the Greenland ice-sheet, placing the lives of several billion people in jeopardy and producing a seven metre sea level rise over time.
