The scale, speed and systemic nature of the climate challenge demands more than isolated policies or incremental responses. It requires stronger understanding of the risks, clearer thinking about what effective responses look like, greater preparedness for worsening disruption, and stronger societal capacity to act.
Safe Climate Australia’s coe projects have been developed in recognition that many institutions, sectors and communities remain underprepared for the implications of accelerating climate disruption and the level of response needed to restore safe climate conditions.
Together, these projects are designed to help strengthen understanding, strategy, preparedness and practical pathways for action. They seek to answer four interconnected questions:
What is happening and what is required?
The Climate Science Imperatives Project strengthens understanding of climate risks, tipping points, trajectories and the conditions required to restore and maintain a safe climate.
What would a serious response look like?
The Safe Climate Plan explores what emergency-scale, whole-of-society action may require to rapidly eliminate harmful emissions, restore atmospheric balance and strengthen societal resilience.
How do we protect people and systems during escalating disruption?
The Climate Risk, Security & National Preparedness Project examines the risks climate disruption poses to communities, ecosystems, infrastructure, economic stability and national resilience — and the measures needed to strengthen protection.
How do we build the conditions for stronger climate responses?
The Strategic Capacity, Public Understanding & Movement Strengthening Project works to strengthen climate understanding, strategic capability, informed advocacy and the wider conditions needed for more effective climate responses across society.
While each flagship project has a distinct purpose, they are designed to operate as an interconnected program of work. Climate science informs transition planning. Risk assessment strengthens preparedness. Public understanding and strategic capacity help improve society’s ability to respond.
Together, these projects reflect Safe Climate Australia’s commitment to helping strengthen the understanding, strategy and societal conditions needed to restore safe climate conditions — at the scale and speed the challenge demands.
