Core Purpose
Our mission is to rigorously investigate and advocate for pathways capable of returning the climate system to safe and stable conditions, rather than simply limiting further deterioration. We provide clear, accessible and grounded analysis and strategy to help ensure climate action adds up to protection for people and nature.
We approach climate restoration as an ongoing inquiry, but also as a necessary response to a climate system already beyond safe conditions. Restoring a safe climate would be an unprecedented undertaking, and whether—and to what extent—it can be achieved remains uncertain. Our work seeks to identify what would be required to restore a climate comparable to pre-industrial conditions, and to translate that understanding into credible strategies and pathways for action. This requires an open and rigorous examination of the full range of responses that may be needed, assessed against the common goal of restoring safe climate conditions.
Strategic Role
Safe Climate Australia provides rigorous analysis to deepen understanding and strengthen climate advocacy. We equip advocates with evidence and strategic perspectives to engage more deeply with the scale and complexity of the climate challenge. We present the climate reality as it is, no matter how confronting, and examine what is required to protect people and planet.
This has long been central to our work, maintaining an unwavering focus on the climate realities we face and the scale and nature of the response they demand. We don’t pivot with political tides or trends. Instead, we provide a clear-eyed assessment of the risks and the scale and nature of the response they demand, giving advocates a stable and credible foundation on which to develop strategy, shape priorities and drive effective action.
