The project is grounded in a recognition that scientific evidence alone rarely drives societal transformation. While climate risks are increasingly understood within parts of the scientific community, meaningful action is often constrained by fragmented understanding, institutional inertia, competing priorities, misinformation, weak coordination and limited strategic capacity.
Many organisations, advocates, institutions and decision-makers are working to respond to climate disruption. However, efforts are frequently disconnected, under-resourced or insufficiently aligned with the scale, urgency and systemic nature of the challenge. Public discourse can become polarised, reactive or dominated by short-term political cycles, leaving little space for risk-based analysis, strategic thinking or long-term planning.
The Strategic Capacity, Public Understanding & Movement Strengthening Project seeks to help address these challenges.

The project focuses on helping improve climate understanding, strategic capability, informed advocacy and institutional readiness by strengthening the flow of trusted information, connecting expertise and supporting broader climate response efforts.
Rather than functioning as a mass-membership campaigning organisation, Safe Climate Australia operates as an upstream catalyst — helping strengthen the wider climate ecosystem by supporting the people, institutions and networks capable of creating broader ripple effects across society.
The project explores several interconnected areas of work:
Improving public understanding of climate risks, scientific realities and response options through clear, grounded and accessible communication.
This includes translating complex scientific and policy issues into practical understanding capable of informing public discussion, decision-making and civic engagement.
Helping ensure climate risks, emerging evidence and response pathways remain visible within public and policy conversations.
The project supports stronger climate communication through reports, articles, podcasts, expert commentary, public forums and contributor-led publications designed to broaden understanding and elevate informed perspectives.
Supporting the development of stronger climate capability across organisations, advocates and institutions working to influence change.
This includes helping strengthen strategic understanding, systems thinking, risk literacy, policy awareness and practical understanding of emergency-scale responses.
Creating spaces for informed discussion and collaboration across scientific, policy, business, security and civil society communities.
The project convenes expert dialogues, roundtables, forums and strategic discussions designed to explore difficult questions, improve coordination and strengthen collective understanding.
Providing a trusted platform for diverse contributors working on climate risks, strategy, policy and solutions.
Safe Climate Australia helps curate, publish, broadcast and amplify expert voices, research, analysis and perspectives that may otherwise struggle to gain visibility within fragmented public discourse.
Helping strengthen the wider climate response by identifying strategic gaps, supporting collaboration and contributing to stronger foundations for long-term impact.
The project recognises that societal transformation requires more than public concern. It requires trusted analysis, stronger networks, informed strategy, institutional capability and a broader ecosystem capable of sustaining pressure for meaningful change over time.
The Strategic Capacity, Public Understanding & Movement Strengthening Project undertakes communications, strategic engagement, contributor collaboration, public education, forums, expert dialogue and ecosystem-strengthening activities designed to build broader climate capability.
Outputs may include reports, briefings, articles, podcasts, events, public forums, stakeholder dialogues, contributor publications, communications resources and collaborative initiatives designed to strengthen understanding and influence.
Importantly, this project is not primarily focused on mass mobilisation or partisan campaigning. Its role is to help strengthen the enabling conditions for stronger climate responses by improving understanding, supporting trusted voices and building strategic capacity among those able to influence wider systems.
The project is closely connected to all other Safe Climate Australia flagship projects. It helps communicate findings from the Climate Science Imperatives Project, broaden understanding of the Safe Climate Plan, strengthen preparedness conversations and support wider societal engagement with climate risks and responses.
